The Prime Health Initiative is an organization that consists of a range of different Thematic areas within Tanzania, Social Behavioral Change being one among its implementation as we know behavior change plays an important role in people's health. PHIT changing behaviors and social norms, generate wider participation, coalition-building, and local ownership among groups, associations, and influential networks.

PHIT SBC strategic approaches

Introduction: PHIT recognizes the critical role of Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) in advancing our mission to improve health outcomes and well-being. This executive summary outlines a comprehensive SBCC strategy designed to address key health challenges, promote positive behavior change, and foster community engagement.

Goal: The overarching goal of our SBCC strategy is to influence positive health-related behaviors, leading to improved community health and well-being. By leveraging effective communication strategies, we aim to empower individuals, communities, and healthcare providers to make informed choices that contribute to better health outcomes.

In implementing this, PHIT has explored three key targets avenues in these topics, namely community (beneficiaries), healthcare providers and health managers.

Health Care Providers Behavioral Change
One key focus is on enhancing Providers' Behavioral Change and Capacity Building. This involves targeted interventions designed to address identified gaps in the knowledge and skills of healthcare providers. The goal is to strengthen healthcare delivery by improving the performance of providers through tailored capacity-building initiatives.

Another vital aspect of our strategic approach is fostering Managers' Behavioral Change to ensure intervention ownership, integration, and the promotion of data use for decision-making. By facilitating behavioral change among managers, we aim to instill a sense of ownership and commitment to the effective implementation of interventions. Emphasizing the role of managers in integrating interventions and using data for decision-making contributes to the overall success of the program.

In addition, our strategy includes promoting Integration and the Use of Data for Decision Making. The objective here is to encourage managers to embrace evidence-based decision-making processes. By actively promoting the incorporation of data into decision-making, we aim to enhance program effectiveness and outcomes. This approach underscores the importance of informed decision-making to drive positive health outcomes.

Community Engagement and Beneficiaries
Furthermore, a critical element of our strategy involves Tailoring Solutions Based on Community Engagement. Recognizing the significance of cultural aspects, we engage directly with communities to understand their unique needs and preferences. This approach ensures that interventions are culturally sensitive and tailored to the specific context of each community. By actively involving communities in the design and implementation of interventions, we enhance their acceptance and effectiveness.

In summary, these strategic approaches collectively contribute to the success of the PHIT SBC program by addressing behavioral aspects at both provider and managerial levels, promoting data-driven decision-making, and ensuring cultural relevance through community engagement.

Mlinde mama community engagement strategy

The Mlinde Mama project employs community engagement resource personnel to implement a community-based approach known as GANC (also referred to as Mother-to-Mother) and ANC meetings. This strategy actively aims to increase the attendance of pregnant women in clinics.

GANC involves empowering pregnant women to take the lead in planning where, when, and what to discuss during sessions. Volunteers share their experiences with other clients, promoting participation and understanding in diverse ways. This client-centered approach has proven effective, leading to an increase in the number of clients attending ANC sessions along with their partners.

Furthermore, Mlinde Mama utilizes ANC meetings as a platform, readily available in the facility, to convey messages. They integrate these messages with the assistance of a maternal booklet provided to ANC day attendees, enhancing ANC messages delivered by healthcare providers (HCP). The maternal booklet is designed to offer comprehensive ANC information through pictures accompanied by simple captions, illustrating topics such as ANC attendance, ITN usage, IPTp, family planning, birth preparedness, danger signs, and more. This booklet has significantly raised awareness and a sense of responsibility not only among pregnant women but also among their partners, relatives, and friends.

Human-centred design

This is a powerful way we use to understand evolving behaviors, preferences, and pain points and to focus efforts on the right places in the right ways while unlocking the user's perspective.

IEC Material Development

We have good experience in the development of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials aim to educate different gender, ages, and social groups on the specific nature of healthy.

We work with donors and investors to build an understanding of the energy needs of poor groups and people living with disabilities in making sure they all change their social norms. We support the capacity building of civil society, stakeholders, and Local Government Authorities while sharing best practices of social, community mobilization, and Advocacy.
