PHIT to Present Three Mlinde Mama Abstracts at the Tanzania Health Summit 2026

Prime Health Initiative Tanzania (PHIT) will present three lessons from the Mlinde Mama Project at the 13th Tanzania Health Summit (THS 2026), taking place from 5–7 October 2026 at Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam. The three abstracts have been selected for oral presentation, providing an opportunity to share locally generated evidence and implementation lessons from PHIT's maternal health work in Tanzania. The presentations will highlight experiences in integrating Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC) into routine health systems, scaling digital maternal health interventions, and promoting respectful maternity care. Together, they demonstrate how locally led research, service delivery innovation, and digital health approaches can contribute to strengthening maternal health services and improving women's experiences of care.

Prime Health Initiative Tanzania (PHIT) is pleased to announce that three abstracts from the Mlinde Mama Project have been selected for oral presentation at the 13th Tanzania Health Summit (THS 2026), taking place from 5–7 October 2026 at Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The three presentations will share evidence and implementation lessons from the Mlinde Mama Project, highlighting PHIT's work in Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC), digital maternal health, health-system integration, and respectful maternity care.

PHIT's Oral Presentations at THS 2026

  1. Integrating Group Antenatal Care into Routine Health Systems: Lessons from a Large-Scale Implementation in Rural Tanzania
This presentation will share lessons from implementing Group Antenatal Care within routine health services, including practical considerations for integrating and sustaining the model within existing health systems.
  2. What It Takes to Scale Digital Maternal Health Interventions in Tanzania: Implementation Lessons from the Mlinde Mama Project
Drawing on the project's experience with digital health and machine-learning-enabled maternal risk stratification, this presentation will explore the real-world factors that influence the implementation and scale-up of digital maternal health innovations in Tanzania.
  3. Voices from the Labour Ward: How Group Antenatal Care Promotes Respectful Maternity Care in Low-resource Settings in Tanzania
This presentation will highlight women's experiences of maternity care and explore how participation in Group Antenatal Care can contribute to more informed, supportive, and respectful experiences during childbirth.

Sharing Evidence from the Mlinde Mama Project

The three presentations reflect different but complementary dimensions of the Mlinde Mama Project and demonstrate the breadth of learning generated through its implementation.

Together, the presentations will highlight:

  • How Group Antenatal Care can be integrated into routine health services in resource-constrained settings
  • Implementation considerations for scaling digital and machine-learning-enabled maternal health interventions
  • The potential contribution of Group Antenatal Care to women's experiences of respectful maternity care
  • Practical lessons for strengthening maternal health services and health systems in Tanzania

About the Mlinde Mama Project

The Mlinde Mama Project was implemented by PHIT in Geita Region, Tanzania, with support from the Gates Foundation. The project combined Group Antenatal Care with digital health and machine-learning approaches to strengthen maternal health service delivery, improve continuity of antenatal care, and support earlier identification of women at increased risk of pregnancy complications.

The project has generated important evidence on the implementation of maternal health innovations within routine health systems, including lessons related to service delivery, digital technology, provider and client experiences, health-system readiness, and sustainability.

Contributing to Tanzania's Health Systems Learning

PHIT looks forward to joining researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, implementers, development partners, and other stakeholders at THS 2026 to share these findings and contribute to discussions on strengthening maternal and newborn health services in Tanzania.

The selection of three Mlinde Mama abstracts for oral presentation provides an important opportunity to share locally generated evidence and implementation experience with a wider national and regional audience.
