Project Summary

The Mlinde Mama project transformed traditional antenatal care in Geita by implementing Group ANC (G‑ANC). Over 5,000 pregnant women were enrolled into cohorts of similar gestational age, receiving health education, individual assessments, and peer support in structured group sessions. This innovative model optimizes limited healthcare resources—staff, facilities, time—while ensuring quality care. By consolidating visits, G‑ANC improves access in rural and underserved areas, empowering women and contributing to healthier pregnancies. The project demonstrates the feasibility and impact of G‑ANC in low‑resource settings and provides a strong foundation for scaling the model across Tanzania and beyond.
